How to extend the life of RIB boats
Do not use abrasive or aggressive compounds, warm soapy water is best in most cases.
Do not use any solvents, petrol, gasoline, etc. (for PVC models), and only use solvents sparingly on Hypalon models. If in doubt, test any cleaner on a piece of patch material.
In winter, to keep your boat in good condition, clean it out and wash it thoroughly with soapy water. Rinse carefully and check for dirt or foreign objects such as shells, sand or fishing hooks left inside that could deteriorate the fabric.
For tar stains, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner such as Jif, or use a recommended inflatable boat cleaner, available at most boat chandlery outlets.
How to repair the tube, if there are tears or cuts in the tube
Ideal conditions for repairs
– Humidity of up to 60%
– Temperature range between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius
– Repairs should not be carried out in direct sunlight, windy or rainy conditions
– However, repairs should be carried out in a well-ventilated area.
How to Bond PVC
REBEL LEISURE LLP inflatable products made from HEYtex PVC coated fabrics require the use of a PVC adhesive. Use only the recommended solvents and adhesives.
Identify the area that needs to be repaired. This can be done by putting water on the suspected area or spraying or brushing detergent in the water.
If the hole is small, cut out a circular patch no smaller than 60 mm in diameter. Larger holes or cuts require correspondingly large patches, but always make sure that there is at least a 30 mm patch around the cut or hole and that the corners are well radiused.
Next hold the patch on the tube and mark around it.
Clean both surfaces with solvent and apply a thin layer of adhesive on top.
When the first layer is dry to the touch (about 10 to 15 minutes), apply a second thin layer of adhesive. Wait 5 or 6 minutes and then touch the adhesive with the back of your hand. If it no longer appears wet, heat the two areas with a heat gun to reactivate the adhesive and attach the patch to the tube, then clamp or roll the surfaces together
Do not fully inflate the boat for 24 hours.
How to Bond HYPALON
The tubes of REBEL LEISURE LLP inflatable boats are constructed of Orca Hypalon coated fabric and cannot be glued with plastic adhesive or welded. The special adhesives provided and the following procedures must be used if repairs are to be successfully carried out.
Use only the adhesive supplied and the recommended solvent and catalyst.
